Bury, Memories of

a Market Town

Unique film dating back over ninety years is included in this video with the reopening of Bury Drill Hall (1907). There are many pre-war scenes, including the Radcliffe Charter Celebrations in 1935 and the Royal visit to Bury in 1938, together with glimpses of Gigg Lane and the Grammar School OTC. Footage from the war years features Civil Defence exercises at Ramsbottom, and with the coming of peace the video includes the Queen opening Bury Town Hall in 1954, and takes a nostalgic look at the old, familiar streets of the town.

AVS Ltd. Production (VHS £13.99; DVD £14.99)
