On this DVD Bury Cine Society bring together two films for the railway enthusiast, ‘Big Steam on the East Lancs’ and ‘The Last Freight to Tottington’.
‘The Last Freight to Tottington’ (7 minutes) was made in the summer of 1963 and is a record of a specially arranged trip for locals and enthusiasts alike commemorating the very last train on the Bury Bolton Street to Tottington line before it closed down for ever the day after.
‘Big Steam on the East Lancs’ (40 minutes). The line to Ramsbottom was preserved and grew to be one of the largest in the country. The industrial engines which occupied the ELR tracks in the early years gradually gave way to Main-liners eager to take advantage of long track runs when the line was extended to Rawtenstall. By the 1990s the elite of the steam world could regularly be seen, including Sir Nigel Gresley, Odney Manor and the Flying Scotsman after a thorough overhaul at Bury sheds.
